Two years ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

And our country hasn’t been the same since, John.

The far-right, activist Supreme Court, with 5 justices appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote in the United States, overturned 50 years of precedence and ripped away a fundamental freedom from millions of Americans.

I’m still so angry at this decision.

Across the country, states have issued total abortion bans. Far-right judges have come after medication abortion, in-vitro fertilization, and more. Republicans in the Senate even killed a measure to protect the right to contraception. Contraception.

And Donald Trump continues to double down on his anti-abortion stance. He’s gloated about the undoing of Roe under his administration. And his ultra-conservative allies are already drafting policies for him to sign on Day One to take away abortion access — and more — in an effort to control women’s healthcare decisions.

I’m running for Senate because we are up against a dangerous, anti-choice presidential candidate in Donald Trump, and a radical Supreme Court hellbent on forcing a social agenda on a country that does not want it. And I’m up against my own anti-choice opponent in Steve Garvey.

John, from the Senate, we can do something about it. We can stand up to these extreme right-wing assaults on our freedoms — and we must. Here is what we must do:

• Expand our Supreme Court: Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump stacked the Supreme Court, and unless we want an entire generation to suffer, we must unstack it.
• Impose Term Limits and an Enforceable Code of Ethics on the court.
• Abolish the filibuster: so we can continue to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms so everyone can make decisions about their own bodies, their own health, and their own future without the government interfering in their doctor’s office.

This is an issue that affects all of us, John. When a country starts losing its rights, it starts losing its democracy. Access to abortion care is about human rights and fundamental freedoms.

I’ve felt deep sadness and anger in the years since Roe was overturned — that women today have fewer rights than women who came generations before. But I’m deeply motivated to restore abortion access and fix the Supreme Court to prevent future decisions like this one.
