Safeguarding one of the world's largest intact freshwater ecosystems, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is home to a huge diversity of animals and plants, from gargantuan alligator snapping turtles to federally protected indigo snakes and red-cockaded woodpeckers.

Now this vast swamp is threatened by a proposed titanium dioxide mine.

When the planet's wildest places are at risk, they must be protected. The Center for Biological Diversity is calling for bold action by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to secure a future for the Okefenokee's pristine waters and precious wildlife.
