Two years ago today, the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with disastrous consequences. Millions of Americans now face arbitrary restrictions on creating barriers to basic reproductive healthcare.

Here in Connecticut, we have protected the right to choose, but nationwide, the threat to reproductive rights nationwide has only grown. Last year alone, Republicans across the country introduced more than 380 state bills that attacked access to reproductive health care.

As I cautioned two years ago today:

This isn't just about reproductive choice— the reasoning behind the Dobbs decision puts other privacy rulings at risk federally, including access to contraceptives and marriage equality. I will continue to do everything in my power to keep the right to choose safe and legal. Today, that commitment is more crucial than ever. I was in the Connecticut state legislature in 1991 and voted to codify reproductive rights which is still good law today. Nonetheless relentless efforts in other states have stripped away these freedoms. And there are concerted efforts in congress to enact a national abortion ban that would override state protections like ours. My opponent has publicly stated he would vote for such a bill.

In order to protect reproductive rights we need to flip the house to stop any abortion ban, and instead codify federal safeguards for the reproductive rights of all Americans.
