Friend,
Anti-Semitism continues to rise, and our Jewish brothers and sisters don’t feel safe. Now is the time for leadership, but many of our elected leaders act like weathervanes.
Never in my life did I think the horrific history that led to the Holocaust would be forgotten and this hate would be allowed to fester unchecked.
I proposed, passed and signed a hate crime law in New York that treats this conduct -- these crimes -- with the seriousness they deserve, but any law is only as good as the will to enforce them.
Hate crimes need to be prosecuted -- full stop -- and if our local district attorneys refuse to do it, the local District Attorney must be replaced with a special prosecutor.
I discussed this and the current post-Oct. 7th world recently with my friends at the Harmonie Club. You can read about it here and you can listen to my address here.
Also, late last week, I appeared on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ for an always candid conversation about the state of politics and our justice system (and why it's not ok that one is seeping into the other.) You can view a portion of our conversation below.
