On this day, just two years ago, the Supreme Court made the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade , tragically upending nearly 50 years of federal protections for reproductive rights.
Over the last two years, we’ve seen the repercussions of this decision play out in Republican-controlled states across the country. GOP extremists have done everything in their power to strip away abortion rights, lifesaving healthcare and medication, and reproductive freedom.
In fact, since June 24, 2022, 14 states have banned abortion across the United States, and an additional six states have early gestational limits between 6 and 15 weeks LMP (last menstrual period). That means that women living in states where abortion is banned or severely restricted now must travel out of state — often incurring additional costs related to travel and loss of wages — or obtain medication abortion drugs from companies who ship the pills without requiring a clinician visit.
And it’s only getting worse.
As you know, t he anniversary of this decision holds a unique weight for me. My son, Joey, was conceived through IVF (in vitro fertilization), a process that was directly protected by Roe v. Wade . Without that protection, the miracle of becoming a father might not have been possible.

This experience has profoundly shaped my commitment to reproductive freedom. It's not just about a woman's right to choose and to make decisions about their own bodies, it's about the freedom to build one's life on their own terms , to pursue parenthood on their own terms, and to access vital healthcare they need without government interference. In Congress, I will fight tooth and nail to restore abortion access and expand reproductive freedom to all.
