Dear John,
Do you remember where you were when you heard that Roe v. Wade had been overturned?
Two years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, declaring that it had been wrongly decided and that the Constitution does not, in fact, contain a "right” to abortion.
Many people didn’t think it would be possible to overturn Roe. When the decision finally came, pro-life advocates across the country wept with joy.
Today, more than 20 U.S. states have passed laws to protect unborn children, potentially saving many thousands of innocent unborn lives.
That’s why this is such an important day for the pro-life movement.
It’s a time to celebrate the tireless efforts of pro-life advocates over the decades, as well as mourn the devastating loss of the more than 63 million innocent lives ended through abortion since 1973. We also grieve with the women who may have felt that abortion was their only option and who now look back with regret.
It’s been a long road. But thanks to Dobbs, we can look with optimism to the future.
Here at Oregon Right to Life, we’re determined to continue working to ensure that the unborn here in our state are recognized as human beings with inherent dignity and value and afforded equal rights and protection under the law.
And don’t forget. Today also marks the start of the final week of Celebrate Life Month.
This week, we urge you to find ways to participate in sidewalk advocacy. You can hold a silent prayer vigil outside a local abortion facility, spread the word by distributing flyers, or sign up to take a class and learn more about what sidewalk advocates do.
