It’s been two years since a conservative majority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — stripping millions of Americans of their right to abortion and reproductive freedom in this country.

That day, the GOP declared victory and made it open season on our fundamental rights. Republican-led legislatures and conservative courts have been working overtime to make it harder and harder to access abortion care. We’ve seen dozens of states severely limit abortion access or enact dangerous bans with limited exceptions.

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was driven to the Court by Mississippi’s Republican AG Lynn Fitch. Republican AGs in GOP-controlled states like Texas and Georgia raced to put dangerous abortion bans into effect. Texas AG Ken Paxton put a woman’s life at risk when he directly intervened to deny her life-saving medical care, forcing her to flee the state. Republican AGs are leading the battle to eliminate reproductive rights.

On the flip side, Democratic AGs took action immediately as a brick wall against anti-abortion Republicans. We’ve seen decades- and centuries-old abortion bans in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona defeated with the help of their Democratic AGs: Dana Nessel, Josh Kaul, and Kris Mayes.

In states like New York and California, Dem AGs Tish James and Rob Bonta doubled down on efforts to enshrine abortion protections and provide legal assistance to those seeking abortions from neighboring states.

The Dobbs ruling was one of the most devastating and consequential decisions in our lifetime, but Dem AGs were ready to use every legal tool they had to fight back against all of the attacks from far-right, anti-abortion extremists.

We must elect more Dem AGs to build on our coalition of reproductive rights champions who will take on these extremist attacks on our fundamental freedoms.
