** Can't drill for oil & gas, can't graze cattle, can't even go for a hike. What exactly do the kooks at Biden's BLM want to do with federal lands?
------------------------------------------------------------
E&E News ([link removed]) (6/21/24) reports: "The Bureau of Land Management advanced Friday land-use plan updates in Colorado and California that would restrict oil and gas development and some recreational uses across nearly 2 million acres to address climate warming. BLM released a final supplemental environmental impact statement that outlines management revisions on 1.6 million acres of BLM lands in the Colorado River Valley and Grand Junction field offices in western Colorado, including closing more than 1 million acres to future oil and natural gas leasing. The bureau also released a final EIS analyzing updates to the Northwest California Integrated Resource Management Plan, which covers 382,200 acres along the state’s northern coast. It highlights future sea-level rise caused by a warming climate as among the justifications for establishing 26 new 'areas of critical environmental concern,' or ACECs,
covering 87,890 acres, or nearly a quarter of the planning area."

** "Simply taxing and spending don’t help the environment. Yet that is the philosophy used here and why Washington has repeatedly failed to meet its environmental goals despite spending huge amounts of money."

Why would the Chinese listen to the deindustrializing Germans on energy?

** Reuters ([link removed])
(6/23/24) reports: "German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said on Sunday that China was indispensable to achieving global climate goals and must find a safe alternative to coal, which accounted for nearly 60% of China's electricity supply in 2023. Officials told Habeck that China was expanding coal production for security reasons, the minister told reporters in the southern city of Hangzhou, the day after meeting Chinese officials in Beijing. 'China also imports large amounts of gas and oil and China has already seen what has happened in Europe and Germany in the last two years,' he added, referring to the energy crisis triggered by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He said cooperation with China must be strengthened, adding: 'Without China it would not be possible to meet the climate targets globally.' 'You don't have to teach them that CO2 emissions are bad for the climate. They've got that,' Habeck said, adding that it should be possible to achieve the same level of security with
fewer coal-fired power plants...China is expanding its coal production but also installed almost 350 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable energy capacity in 2023, more than half the global total."

(6/21/24) reports: "The U.S. Olympic team is one of a handful that will supply air conditioners for their athletes at the Paris Games in a move that undercuts organizers’ plans to cut carbon emissions. U.S. Olympic and Paralympic CEO Sarah Hirshland said Friday that while the U.S. team appreciates efforts aimed at sustainability, the federation would be supplying AC units for what is typically the largest contingent of athletes at the Summer Games. 'As you can imagine, this is a period of time in which consistency and predictability is critical for Team USA’s performance,' Hirshland said. “In our conversations with athletes, this was a very high priority and something that the athletes felt was a critical component in their performance capability.' The Washington Post reported earlier this month that Germany, Australia, Italy, Canada and Britain were among the other countries with plans to bring air conditioners to France...According to the International Energy Agency, fewer than 1 in 10
households in Europe has air conditioning, and the numbers in Paris are lower than that. The study said that of the 1.6 billion AC units in use across the globe in 2016, more than half were in China (570 million) and the United States (375 million). The entire European Union had around 100 million."

Always for me, never for thee.

(6/24/24) reports: "The Green Party leader has admitted that she still has a gas boiler despite her party’s commitment to reach net zero by 2040. Carla Denyer, the co-leader of the Greens, has insisted she is 'in the process of getting quotes' for an air source heat pump. But she told ITV that she had put replacing it 'on pause' during the general election and that she would revisit it once the campaign was over. Ms Denyer, who is standing in Bristol Central, told ITV’s The Leader Interviews: 'At the moment I have a gas boiler and I’m literally in the process of getting quotes for replacing it with an air source heat pump. I’ve had to put that on pause during the general election as you can imagine, but I, yeah, literally have quotes in my email inbox.' The Green Party has pledged to invest £9 billion over the next five years for heat pumps and other heating systems to be put into homes and other buildings. The party will also campaign for house builders to include 'low carbon heating
systems such as heat pumps' in all new homes 'where appropriate.'"
