Pretty much every time you turn on the TV, Donald Trump is promising frontline health workers will receive personal protective equipment (PPEs). And in many cases he insists they have already been delivered.

But where are the masks? We know there are critical shortages and our nurses and frontline medical teams are being left to develop make-shift masks and protective gear while state and local governments scramble to secure their own supplies of PPEs.

The United States is the richest country in the history of the world. But when it comes to supplying our frontline medical workers with the basic, medical equipment to keep themselves, their patients, and the community safe, we have failed.

This is a failure at the highest levels of government, which started the day Trump took office—dismantling the protections the Obama administration put in place to keep us safe during a pandemic.

And, every day that Donald Trump steps to the podium—spouting lies and misinformation that undermines experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—he further hurts our response efforts.

It’s critical that we hold this president accountable and demand he immediately use the full powers under the Defense Production Act to ramp up production of N95 respirators, masks and other critical personal protective equipment to ensure the immediate and continued distribution of this essential equipment to nurses and other health care workers on the front lines.
