Hey, John,
Two years ago today, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, overturning half a century of settled precedent so that conservatives across America could restrict a woman’s right to choose however they liked.
Two years later, it is harder to get an abortion than it was two years ago in virtually every state in the South—including North Carolina.
John, I grew up with three older sisters. In a lot of ways, they raised me just as much as my parents did. The four of us grew up in a North Carolina where Roe v. Wade was the law of the land—and that meant that no matter what happened, I could always rest easy knowing that if something happened, my sisters would be able to access lifesaving healthcare, and I knew that they would have the freedom to make their own decisions about when, where, and whether to start a family.
Today, I’m a proud uncle to six nieces and nephews, because my sisters had that freedom and security, and in the end, starting families was right for them. No one made that decision for them—when the timing was right, they were able to become parents, on their own terms. Because abortion rights are about opportunity —opportunity for millions of women all across our country who deserve the trust that they and their doctors can make medical decisions for themselves.
It’s absolutely critical that we restore that status quo, and there’s only one party fighting to do that: Democrats.
That’s why this election is so important. That’s why this campaign is about so much more than just one office. If we want to overturn the Republican abortion ban and make Roe v. Wade as the law of the land once more, we’ve got to get out there and fight to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and in places that haven’t voted for Democrats in a decade or more.
It won’t be easy, but together, we can do it. We’re running a one-hundred county campaign because this is about a lot more than just flipping the Treasurer’s office— we’ve got to bring a whole lot of our candidates for legislature along with us.
With our most fundamental rights on the line, John, can I count on you to support our efforts and make a contribution of whatever you can afford today? It’s all hands on deck to restore the right to choose and protect the opportunities that have made North Carolina great. [[link removed]]
