It was never going to end with overturning Roe. 

Two years ago today, Donald Trump’s MAGA majority Court handed down a heartbreaking decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, striking a dangerous blow to reproductive freedom in America. And in the two years that have followed, the right-wing supermajority on this Court has demonstrated again and again what their intentions are: to strip us of our fundamental freedoms in service of their own ultra-conservative ideology.

Thanks to Donald Trump’s four years in office, we are now stuck with three young, Trump-appointed Supreme Court justices who are ready to camp out in their seats for decades. Those appointments have allowed this MAGA Court to gut our rights to reproductive healthcare, safety from gun violence, voting protections, a clean environment, affirmative action, and more. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg unless we take action. 

Imagine if Trump gets the chance to appoint even more justices. With four of the nine Supreme Court justices in their 70s in 2025—that’s a distinct likelihood if Trump is elected again.

Donald Trump is already saying the quiet part out loud. He bragged about appointing justices to “kill Roe.” He recently admitted that he wants to appoint as young of justices as possible, saying “we like people in their 30s, so they’re there for 50 years.”

Conservatives know why they’re voting this fall. It’s time for progressives to take the Supreme Court as seriously.

We’ve seen firsthand how some voters sitting out or voting third party in 2016 still hurts us. Today, one in three women live in states where they’re forced to choose between heartbreaking and dangerous options around abortion care thanks to the Dobbs decision.

That’s just the beginning. If Trump appoints more justices, the growing MAGA majority on the Supreme Court could stop action on the climate crisis. Overturn more gun safety laws. Attack birth control and IVF. Weaken voting rights even further. Overturn gay marriage.

Our fundamental freedoms are on the line. The November election is about more than deciding our next president. It’s about deciding what kind of country we want our children and our grandchildren to live in.
