Two years ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional protection of reproductive rights that had been in place for nearly 50 years. As a result, many states have passed severe restrictions and even bans on critical reproductive healthcare services.
Since then, Maryland has stepped up to safeguard reproductive healthcare. The General Assembly has passed additional protections, and I voted with the Board of Public Works to purchase nearly three years’ worth of mifepristone to ensure our residents have access to medical abortions.
This November, Marylanders have a chance to further protect our rights by voting on a constitutional amendment that will include the right to an abortion and birth control in our state constitution.
Now is the time to do all we can to support the ballot initiative and ensure abortions continue to be safe and accessible here in Maryland. I encourage you to vote YES on the reproductive freedom referendum in November, and I hope you’ll consider supporting this movement by splitting a contribution between my campaign and FIRM (Freedom in Reproduction Maryland) today.
