Two years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned their landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade, which made abortion a constitutional right for all Americans. This overturning enabled states like Florida to enact harsh bans on abortion and to restrict access to reproductive care, causing unfathomable and completely unnecessary harm to patients and families.
Roe was a tangible loss for so many of us, but it is far from the beginning or the end of the war on our rights to our own bodies. Since 2022, Florida Republicans have used their supermajority in the State Legislature to force upon us a 6-week abortion ban. If we allow this status quo to continue, Republicans will use their power and influence to further restrict reproductive healthcare.
Abortion is on the ballot this year– from the ballot initiative to make abortion a Florida constitutional right, to the legislators whose votes will determine the future of our access to care. There is still so much we need to do to protect reproductive freedom.
Shortly after the fall of Roe, I took on a new role as CEO of Ruth’s List Florida. I am so proud of this organization and grateful for the work that we do. In a time when we could be focused on the losses of the past, my team, our candidates, and I have our eyes set on making real progress in Florida.
John, by flipping seats in our State Legislature and filling state and local offices with pro-choice, Democratic women leaders, we can take back our rights and take back our state. Can I count on you to be with us this year?
Keep Fighting,
Christina Diamond
