Gray wolves are being slaughtered in the Northern Rockies.
Friend, it's the 1800s all over again in the Northern Rockies.
Earlier this year, the federal government dealt a major blow to the survival of gray wolves in the region when it stripped them of critical endangered species protections – allowing violent killing campaigns to continue in states where barbaric local laws allow hunters to use cruel tactics like snaring, baiting, and night shooting to kill these threatened animals.
Now, to make matters worse, anti-wildlife members of Congress are coordinating with special interests like the National Rifle Association and farming lobbyists to remove Endangered Species Act protections for even more wolves.
If they succeed, it will mean a death sentence for countless gray wolves – an ecologically critical species that has already been pushed to the brink of extinction before. Will you help us protect them by taking part in our Summer Membership Drive today, Friend?
We know what happens when a campaign to exterminate gray wolves succeeds – because it happened before, back in the 1800s. Hundreds of thousands of animals were shot, trapped, and poisoned. And as these top predators disappeared from the landscape, the health of the overall ecosystem was thrown wildly out of balance.
People like you rescued gray wolves from extinction by demanding an end to the slaughter and fighting for wildlife protections. But today we're facing another critical turning point for the species, as lawmakers push forward with bills that would strip life-saving protections from wolves.
The Sierra Club is striking back on every front. Along with our partners, we're fighting in court to demand that the Biden administration stop the rampant killing by restoring endangered species protections to gray wolves. And our team is working tirelessly to defeat dangerous legislation that would imperil wolves and other endangered species as they struggle to survive in the face of habitat loss, climate change, and other existential threats.
We need wolves for a healthy, biodiverse environment – and right now, wolves need us. I hope you'll join us today as we fight to ensure these magnificent animals endure for future generations.
With gratitude,
