At the end of another challenging week, I wanted to take a moment to share a heart-warming update from IJ client Charlie Birnbaum.
For five years, Charlie and IJ fought to keep New Jersey’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority from abusing eminent domain to take the family home his parents left him. Charlie’s home holds precious memories of his parents, both survivors of the Holocaust who lived there until they passed. It’s also where he runs his piano-tuning business and indulges his passion for making music. We won a final victory for Charlie last spring.
Charlie wrote to us this week to extend his gratitude to everyone who made that victory possible: “The Atlantic City home is doing what it was meant to do, giving our family a place of refuge and peace. ... There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t say a prayer of thanks for what IJ did for our family.” He’s also using this time to put some more music out in the world, which he asked us to share: [link removed] <[link removed]>.
Success stories like Charlie’s are only possible because of the generous support of IJ’s donors. I know this is a difficult time for many, but if you are able, please consider joining our fight by making a donation <[link removed]> to support the vital work of protecting the constitutional rights of Charlie and thousands of others like him.
I hope Charlie’s music and message bring peace and joy to your day.
