I was the first Member of Congress to talk about my own period on the House floor, so I’m not afraid to say this:
I went on birth control in high school for debilitating cramps. I've used Plan B. I have an IUD.
These aren’t niche topics or wedge issues. Birth control is part of basic health care for me and for millions of others all around the country, and we deserve the right to access it.
But that right is under attack from a GOP hell-bent on controlling our bodies and our lives.
Earlier this month, Senate Republicans actually voted to BLOCK legislation that would have guaranteed access to contraception for all. It should have been one of the easiest votes they’ve ever taken, but instead, they chose to further alienate more than half the population and show yet again that they’ll put their extreme anti-choice agenda ahead of the values of the vast majority of Americans every chance they get.
If we want to restore reproductive freedom at the federal level and protect our fundamental rights, we absolutely must take back the House in November.
The good news is that it’s possible – but it won’t happen without hard work. We need to fight every day between now and November 5th to reach every voter and ensure they know the stakes of this election.
To do that, Democrats need to boost our fundraising. Will you help?
