Invited Guests Include: Nicholas County Commissioners Garrett Cole, Craig Chapman, and Gary Roberts; Nicholas County Sheriff Johnny Evans; Richwood Mayor Gary Johnson; Nicholas County Board of Education Members Chip Perrine, Roy Moose, Rick Green, Steven Ferguson, and Phill Berry; Assistant Superintendent of Nicholas County Schools Kelli Whytsell; Richwood Middle School Principal Gene Collins, CIS Site Coordinator Sommer Dillsworth; and Therapy Dog Primary Handler Aundreasha Bayless.
WHAT: First Lady Justice will introduce Jax, the newest therapy dog to be placed as part of her Friends With Paws program.
The Friends With Paws program is a partnership between the Governor’s Office, West Virginia Communities In Schools Nonprofit, and the West Virginia Department of Education. Therapy dogs are placed in schools within CIS counties where students are disproportionately affected by poverty, substance misuse, or other at-risk situations, and are in the greatest need of a support animal. The dogs will serve as a healthy and friendly outlet for these students to address trauma and other social-emotional issues.
