Governor Wes Moore: "Hi, I'm Governor Wes Moore of Maryland, and I'm asking for your help today"
Hey there – it’s Governor Wes Moore of Maryland here with a message for you about the current state of reproductive rights.

But before I get into it, I have a quick request for you. Tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision that tore away Americans’ constitutional right to an abortion. To reaffirm Democrats’ commitment to protecting reproductive rights two years later, the DGA has set a 100,000 signature response goal on their Reproductive Rights Petition – and I’m asking you to sign on now to demand these rights be protected.

In the two years since the Dobbs decision, extremist Republicans across the country have done everything in their power to ruin the crucial reproductive freedoms that Americans had for decades: Republicans in 21 states have moved to ban nearly all abortions or severely restrict access to them, and the GOP has sought to criminalize abortion and punish those seeking an abortion and their doctors – and this is just the start. Anyone who thinks that there is no threat to women’s reproductive rights and abortion access is delusional.

But while we’ve seen the GOP make strides in further restricting reproductive rights, I’m proud to say that Democrats like myself, my fellow Democratic governors, and President Biden have stood against these attacks – and we’ve continued to fight for reproductive freedom for all Americans.

Here in Maryland, I’m willing to fight tooth and nail to protect reproductive rights – because I know the choice belongs to individuals, not extreme politicians. I’m proud to have signed a historic bill last year to protect the rights of all Marylanders and expand abortion access, and I will continue to fight to enshrine those rights into our state constitution.

That’s the difference Democratic governors can make for our progress. Much like Donald Trump running against President Biden and threatening reproductive rights at the federal level, dangerous GOP candidates for governor will be appearing on ballots in states across the country this November – and many of them have their sights set on statewide abortion bans and even restrictions on IVF and contraception.

So, I need your help to stand up and reaffirm your commitment to advocating for reproductive rights, team – because two years after the Dobbs ruling, it’s clear that our fight is far from over. Will you sign our petition before midnight and help us reach our 100,000 signature goal?
