An extremely troubling and infuriating stat was released earlier this year, and with Monday being the two-year anniversary of the fall of Roe v. Wade, we felt it was important to remind you why our work is so important.

According to NBC News, a study* estimated that, since abortion bans were put into place, “nearly 520,000 rapes were associated with 64,565 pregnancies across 14 states, most of which had no exceptions that allowed for terminations of pregnancies that occurred as a result of rape.”

Texas saw the highest numbers, which, according to the Houston Chronicle, had over 26,000 “rape-related pregnancies during the 16 months after the state outlawed all abortions, with no expectations for survivors of rape or incest.”

The picture (above) is of Greg Abbott at a press conference after passing SB8 in 2021. According to The 19th News, at that press conference, he told a reporter that this bill wouldn't force women to carry pregnancies to term that resulted from rape or incest because "they will have 6 weeks to get an abortion" and that his administration would "work tirelessly" to "eliminate all rapists."

These findings are chilling. Greg Abbott and a room full of men crafted and passed legislation that has directly resulted in more than 26,000 rape victims in Texas being forced to carry their rapist’s baby. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

We need women in the rooms where these dangerous, deadly, sexist decisions are being made. We need women in these rooms to serve as a voice for ALL of the women in our country.
