Friend —

I want you to meet my friend and the next Congressman from Michigan’s 7th District, Curtis Hertel.

I have known Curtis since I first began exploring first running for office in 2017, so take it from me, Curtis is the real deal. I’m confident that with him mid-Michigan will be in good hands. But I would never say that without showing the proof, so let me explain:

Curtis represented Lansing in the Michigan Senate and served as the Senate Minority Whip. Drawn to public service by the example of his grandfather, a World War II combat veteran, and his father, Curtis Hertel Sr., a former legislator who was respected and admired for his tenure as co-Speaker of the Michigan House at a time when the chamber was evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. Curtis' dad taught his kids that there is nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together.

As a state senator, he stood up against Republicans in Lansing trying to ban abortion and played a key role in repealing Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban. In Congress, he will always stand on the side of women and protect the right to choose.

After Curtis’ son, an MSU student, was barricaded on campus during the mass shooting last year, he helped lead the team that passed bipartisan common sense gun safety legislation here in Michigan, including red flag laws, safe storage laws, and extreme risk protection orders.

All this is to say that Curtis is a leader who will work with anyone to deliver for mid-Michigan, and has a proven track record of delivering for Michiganders.

But I know better than anyone that holding onto this seat won’t be easy: with your support, I won three razor-thin races in one of the most hotly contested — and most expensive — House districts in the country. This November, keeping MI-07 blue will be key to determining who controls the House, and right now election forecasters are calling it a “toss-up.”

I won my three House races because of grassroots support from folks like you, and I hope you’ll extend that same support to Curtis and ensure that the 7th Congressional District stays blue. Will you split a donation to my campaign and Curtis’?

Thank you,
Elissa
