Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here We Must Secure the Border NOW For over three years, Congressional Democrats and the Biden administration have allowed our borders to remain open, permitting criminal drug cartels, terrorists, and 9.5 million illegal immigrants to enter our country. Under President Biden, our border patrol is completely overwhelmed and cannot prevent illegal immigrants from entering our country. Recently, a migrant who entered the country illegally at the Southern Border brutally attacked and raped a 13 year old in a park in Queens, New York. The horrific incident, like the murders of Laken Riley and Rachel Morin, could have been prevented with stricter border policies. As a co-sponsor of HR 2, the Secure the Border Act, which is the strongest border security bill ever passed in Congress, I believe we must tackle the border crisis that has led to an unprecedented national security and humanitarian crisis. I recently supported the Police Our Border Act, which reports to Congress on how the Biden border crisis has affected law enforcement, and includes details on crimes committed by illegal aliens. When border patrol officers and police officers do not have the resources they need to do thier jobs, criminals are let into the country and threaten and harm our children. We must stop putting our communities at risk. ICYMI: Demanding Governor Hochul Pardon President Trump Three weeks ago, former President Donald Trump was convicted on the grounds of a politically motivated and malicious prosecution. I recently sent a letter to Governor Hochul regarding the recent verdict in the case of The People of the State of New York V Donald J. Trump, which undermined the equality and credibility of our justice system by convicting President Trump. It is Governor Hochul’s duty to immediately issue a pardon in order to reinstate integrity in our once venerable justice system. As a member of the New York Bar Association and the daughter of a New York State Supreme Court Justice, I am horrified by this abuse of power and the politicized, two-tiered system of justice Governor Kathy Hochul and DA Alvin Bragg have created. Instead of prosecuting violent criminals in his jurisdiction, Alvin Bragg went after President Trump in an effort to constrain his ability to campaign freely. A pardon is critical to restore the integrity and faith of our legal system that was lost when in an effort to silence him, President Trump was convicted. We cannot stand behind our legal system being used to further political agendas. READ MORE: Another House member calls on New York Democratic Gov. Hochul to pardon Trump: 'Your solemn duty' Banning Biological Men from Participating in Women's Sports! Biological men should not be able to compete in women's sports. Period. Yet the NCAA has allowed biological men to participate in women's college sports, undermining the critical Title IX protections women fought so hard to achieve. This has not only created an unsafe physical and mental environment for female athletes but is fundamentally unfair. In April 2024, I sent a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker demanding that he change the NCAA's policies and ban biological men from participating in women's sports. I also introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to guarantee women and girls a fair playing field in competitive sports. This act ensures that school athletics comply with Title IX's recognition of a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth. This commonsense bill protects biological females from having to compete against biological men in women's competitive sports funded through Title IX. Recently, we saw a breakthrough for women athletes. Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas was barred from competing in the Olympics. After becoming the first biological male athlete to win a women's NCAA Division I title in March 2022, Thomas had Olympic ambitions. However, a ruling made by World Aquatics bans transgender women who underwent male puberty, like Thomas, from participating in women's races. This is only the beginning; there is more to be done. We must keep biological men out of women's sports, especially in the Olympics, the most esteemed sports event in the world. I am dedicated to protecting opportunities for female athletes to compete and thrive. Mountain Fest Remembrance Ceremony It was an honor to join Gold Star families and members of our community at Fort Drum's Annual Remembrance Ceremony this week to pay tribute to our fallen heroes. Our team recently had the privilege of assisting Mr. William Havener, the keynote speaker at this event, and his family. We helped him receive records and find closure from the United States Air Force and New York Air National Guard following the passing of his father, Captain William Havener. Captain Havener served as an active duty member of the Air Force and later with the New York Air National Guard, assigned to the 174th Fighter Wing at Hancock Field in Syracuse. He tragically died at the Fort Drum Bombardment Range in October 1974 during a training accident. Thank you to General Scott Naumann for inviting me to the Mountain Fest Remembrance Ceremony. It is important that we continue to pay tribute and honor the life and legacy of all our fallen heroes, and events like these keep their legacy alive. ICYMI: International Trade Administration Webinar As part of our office's monthly webinar series, our team works to connect residents of New York’s 24th Congressional District to resources and support at the federal level. This month, our office hosted guests from the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce to discuss best trade practices for businesses in NY-24. We were joined by representatives from the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Watertown International Trade Administration offices to discuss how they can assist American businesses when entering foreign markets to sell American-made products. Recordings of this webinar and past webinars can be found on my website here. #FREERYANCORBETT In the over 675 days Ryan Corbett has been held without charge by the Taliban he has only had a handful of phone calls with his loving wife, Anna, and his three children, Ketsia, Miriam, and Caleb. Just this past weekend, the family celebrated another Father's Day without their devoted father, and in a few days, Ketsia will be graduating from High School. Ryan is being held in a 9-foot by 9-foot basement cell without regular access to a bathroom, sunlight, or medical care. Reports from now-freed individuals who were detained with Ryan state that Ryan is in poor health, with discolored extremities, fainting, seizures, and fading eyesight. The Senate and House recently passed a resolution calling for the immediate release of Ryan Corbett, a United States citizen who was wrongfully detained by the Taliban on August 10, 2022, and condemning the wrongful detention of Americans by the Taliban. Passing this resolution unanimously in the House of Representatives sends an indisputable message to Ryan and all our American detainees that Congress is thinking about you, praying for you, and continuing to work to secure your release. Now, it is up to President Biden and his administration to do everything in their power to bring Ryan home and reunite Anna with her husband and their three wonderful children with their father.
