It just keeps unraveling, Friend-
Governor Mike DeWine's legacy is circling the drain.
Documents from the discovery process in shareholder lawsuits against
FirstEnergy bring the bailout bribery scandal closer and closer to
DeWine and his administration.
A public records request reveals that DeWine communicated
frequently during his first run for governor with former FirstEnergy
CEO Chuck Jones and VP Michael Dowling.
New texts show FirstEnergy working with Gov.
DeWine to pass House Bill 6
FirstEnergy gave more than $4 MILLION to back DeWine
and Husted along with money for DeWine's daughter's prosecutor
bid.
FirstEnergy secretly spent more to help elect Gov. Mike
DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted during the 2018 election than it spent
to make Larry Householder speaker of the Ohio House.
Text messages show the governor asking
FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones directly for money for his
campaign.
DeWine told reporters that he didn't recall that conversation with
Jones. He said, "I was making a lot of calls, as you can
imagine leading up to an election, we had a close race."
The
smoking pen
On July 23, 2019, the day House Bill 6 was sent to the governor's
desk, Householder ally and coal company executive Matt Evans texted
FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones saying, "Just talked to DeWine. He will
sign the bill within the hour."
In August of that year, DeWine's staffer Dan McCarthy texted
Michael Dowling, saying he was sending him the pen DeWine used to sign
HB 6 into law, to which Dowling replied, "You're the
best!"
DeWine, Husted
sought as defense witnesses for FirstEnergy exec accused of
bribery
It looks like Gov. Mike DeWine will leave a legacy of
corruption since he has done nothing to address the corruption
surrounding the House Bill 6 scandal.
As we look ahead to November, it's crucial to understand the
importance of voting on redistricting reforms.
Gerrymandering allows politicians to manipulate district boundaries
to secure their power, reducing competition and accountability. By
advocating for fair and competitive districts, we can ensure that our
representatives truly reflect the will of the people and are held
accountable for their actions.
Eliminating gerrymandering will reduce the likelihood of scandals
like the HB6 debacle by promoting transparency and integrity in our
political system.
Your vote this November can
make a significant difference in creating a fairer, more just
Ohio.
Please attend the July 1st rally to end
gerrymandering. We'll see you there!
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to fighting for
transparency and justice in our state.
P.S. We're gearing up for our electoral
work. Your contribution will help fuel your homegrown
action team. Donate today!
