Last week, the House passed their version of the National Defense Authorization Act <[link removed]> (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025 and included an important amendment to rescind the Secretary of Defense’s memo providing taxpayer funding for abortion travel. This week, the Senate released its version of the NDAA that includes typically egregious Democrat provisions that treat the military as a social institution rather than a warfighting organization.
Don't Draft our Daughters
The Senate Armed Services Committee voted to require women between the ages of 18-26 to register for the Selective Service System so that they could be officially drafted to go to war during a time of national emergency.
Democrats say they are promoting “equal opportunity,” but the military is not supposed to be “fair,” it is supposed to be lethal. Our military is still the best in the world and it runs solely as a volunteer force. Women already have widespread opportunities <[link removed]> to serve in the armed forces. This initiative won’t promote equal treatment or opportunity for women.
And given the advances in warfighting technology, it's an open question as to whether a draft would ever be needed again, or if it would
even be effective. <[link removed]>
Mandating women to sign up for the selective service will not help our military readiness. Congress shouldn’t draft our daughters.
Biden doesn't take his deadly border crisis seriously
Biden has refused to take the border seriously and Americans are paying the price. Now, Biden is signaling that he will continue to leave the border wide open.
Since Biden took office, more than 8 million illegal immigrants <[link removed]> have been caught crossing the border —and another estimated 1.7 million <[link removed]> have crossed and got away from authorities. Of the illegal aliens that are caught, an overwhelming majority of them are released back into the United States <[link removed]>, flooding our country with people from around the world with little to no screening.
The results have been tragic.
Rachel Morin <[link removed]>, mother of five in Maryland, was raped and murdered by Victor Hernandez —an illegal alien who is also wanted in his own country of El Salvador for murder.
Also within the
past two weeks: An Ecuadorian illegal alien was arrested for the kidnapping <[link removed]> and rape of a 13-year-old girl in New York, two illegal aliens from Venezuela were arrested for strangling 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray <[link removed]> in Houston, and a gang of five illegal aliens were arrested for the kidnapping and attempted trafficking <[link removed]> of a 14-year-old girl in Indiana.
In the midst of this, instead of enacting strong reforms to protect America, Biden instead is trying to give legal status to at least 500,000 illegal aliens <[link removed]> married to American citizens by Executive Order. This would be one of the largest mass amnesty programs in history and would completely circumvent the law and Congress.
This action shows how unserious Biden is about securing our borders. He has the authority to take decisive action that would stem the tsunami of illegal crossings, but instead is choosing to provide amnesty which will only continue to signal to the world that our borders are open for anyone to cross.

State Update
Louisiana became the 19th state in the nation <[link removed]> to enact K-12 Education Savings Accounts (ESA) style policy, and the 11th to make those ESAs universal.
With Governor Jeff Landry’s signing of SB 313 and SB 388, nearly all students will become eligible for scholarships worth about $5,200 annually within three years.
ESAs empower parents to use their child’s portion of state education spending to meet the child’s unique learning needs by choosing a new school, purchasing textbooks or other learning materials, hiring personal tutors, and more. This breaks the “one-size-fits-all” approach to education and allows parents to tailor their child’s education experience to their unique needs and learning styles.

In Case You Missed It
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) have introduced The Dismantle DEI Act (S. 4516 / H.R. 8706) to comprehensively eliminate <[link removed]> taxpayer funding of DEI federal offices, programs, grants, and trainings.
Just as the left is playing social politics with the military, they have been doing the same thing with federal bureaucracies for years. But using Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) criteria for hiring, the Left is treating individuals according to immutable characteristics such as race or sex instead of treating them according to the content of their character and professional merit.
This is no way to treat people, and it’s no way to run America’s federal government. Heritage Action has included this bill as a Key Vote <[link removed]> and cosponsorship of the bill will be recorded on our legislative scorecard.
