John, did you hear the good news?
That’s right — under Katie Porter’s Presidential Ethics Reform Act, presidents and vice presidents will be required to publicly disclose their tax returns.
John, this is a big deal. Remember how Donald Trump refused to release his tax returns and financial records for the entire time he served as President of the United States?
Well, Katie Porter is doing something about that. But proposing this bill is just the first step — now we need to pass it. For that to happen, we need to elect candidates who share Rep. Porter’s vision of restoring trust in government. Will you help us do that by chipping in $5 today?
Not only did Trump refuse to disclose his finances, but remember that he was ordered to pay a $355 million fine for committing fraud by lying about his wealth. Trump falsified business records and used fraudulent financial statements to obtain millions of dollars in loans.
It’s clear that “just trust me” isn’t good enough — candidates like Trump need to be required to disclose their tax returns and financial records. Voters have a right to know where their future leaders have been getting their money — and from whom.
Thanks,
Team Truth to Power
