Katie Britt: Protecting kids from social media is not a political issue – ‘We’re coming together as concerned parents’

U.S. Senator Katie Britt joined Fox News’ Will Cain this morning at Rickwood Field in Birmingham to discuss social media and the need to limit its use among young children. Britt and Cain, along with thousands of others fans, are at Rickwood today to watch the first Major League Baseball game ever played in the country’s oldest professional ball park.

 

Britt, the only female U.S. Senator with school-age children, first spoke about the massive increase in depression that coincided with the rise of social media.

Katie Britt ‘disappointed that Senate Democrats blocked the MOMS Act from passing’

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt called out her Senate colleagues on the other side of the aisle for voting against her bill that she believes would help mothers across the country.

 

Britt introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act in May that would have provided support to women during pregnancy and beyond, encompassing the prenatal, postpartum, and early childhood development stages. The bill would have also increased access to financial and healthcare resources and assistance aimed at helping mothers and their children.

Katie Britt agrees with Surgeon General on need to protect kids from social media

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt is showing support for U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s idea of adding warning labels for parents on social media.

 

“The mental health crisis among young people is an emergency — and social media has emerged as an important contributor,” Murthy said in a guest essay published by The New York Times.

“While the platforms claim they are making their products safer, Americans need more than words,” he added. “We need proof.”
