I spent the last week traveling across South Jersey meeting with countless constituents across the district to discuss the real issues that are impacting them and to celebrate the ways that they serve their community.

Recently, the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in Contempt of Congress for failing to comply with Congressional subpoenas for the audiotapes of Special Counsel Hur's interviews with President Joe Biden. These audiotapes are crucial in the investigation of President Biden's alleged mishandling of classified documents. 

The DOJ's refusal to comply with subpoenas has serious implications for the integrity of our justice system. This lack of accountability and transparency, especially at the highest levels of our government, erodes public trust. Transparency must be our top priority to ensure that our justice system operates fairly and effectively. The American people deserve nothing less than a vigilant and accountable government.

Recently, at a House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee hearing, I spoke on the negative impacts that investment firms who practice Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) based investing have on the American investor.

We are seeing a concerning rise in investment companies that have shifted their focus toward prioritizing ESG initiatives rather than solely seeking the highest returns for their investors. This framework is being used as a tool to push political and ideological goals on American companies, placing the financial welfare of investors secondary to the investment firm's subjective beliefs. Not only do these practices neglect these firm's fiduciary responsibility to maximize returns for their investors but it also raises serious concerns that the coordination between these investment firms to force American companies to comply with their ESG goals may also violate U.S. antitrust law.

This week, I joined Fox Business's Liz MacDonald to discuss the House Judiciary Committee Chair's threat to subpoena New York Attorney General (AG) Letitia James if she does not provide the requested information on former Justice Department official, Matthew Colangelo, who played a key role in prosecuting former President Trump in the Manhattan trial.

Matthew Colangelo was a top official for the Department of Justice (DOJ) before he left his position to join the New York Attorney General's Office. The threat of a subpoena comes after AG James failed to provide the requested information regarding Colangelo's role in the local prosecution of President Trump.

Recently, Rep. Van Drew questioned Coast Guard official Vice Admiral Paul F. Thomas during a Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee hearing to question the progress of the expansion at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, South Jersey.

This Coast Guard Training Center is the primary training facility for all incoming Coast Guard recruits. To increase the number of enlisted personnel, the Coast Guard plans to expand the training center and upgrade its existing buildings. In 2022, I worked with representatives of both parties to secure authorization for the project's funding, which was signed into law. Now, construction is expected to begin soon with the Coast Guard committed to submitting a copy of their Strategic Development Plan outlining these upgrades. This center is vital to our national security and the readiness of our maritime forces, and these improvements will benefit the generations of Coast Guard recruits to come.

Recently, two of my bills passed through the House of Representatives with the bipartisan support of all 12 members of the New Jersey delegation. These bills would rename the post office on Route 47 South in Rio Grande to "Carlton H. Hand Post Office Building" and the post office on Route 9 South in Middle Township to "George Henry White Post Office Building".

These post offices will be renamed to honor two South Jersey citizens, Carlton H. Hand and Doctor George Henry White. Carlton Hand served in World War II where his actions earned him countless commendations such as a Battlefield Commission, a Silver Star Medal, and a Purple Heart, among other awards. Dr. George White was a founder of the town of Whitesboro which he created as a haven for African American families, establishing what at the time was an unprecedented economic opportunity for these families during the early 1900s.

They have both immensely contributed to our South Jersey community and it will be an honor to have their names on our post offices to ensure their legacies are remembered for years to come.

I had the honor of congratulating Benjamin Miller on his achievement of the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest honor for America's youths. This prestigious award is given to individuals who have exemplified exceptional dedication and service to their community above and beyond. Ben is truly deserving of this recognition, having completed over 400 hours of community service, with initiatives like Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Salesianum Lawless House, all while excelling academically.
