Friend, One of my top priorities in Congress is blocking our foreign adversaries – namely Communist China – from purchasing U.S. farmland. Communist China's ownership of American land has increased more than 20-fold in the last decade, and it is past time we take action to protect our food and national security from this growing threat. That's why I'm backing the No American Land for Communist China Act. The legislation will prohibit members of the CCP or any CCP-backed entity from purchasing any American land near federal U.S. land. This protects our military installations, national labs, and land with critical resources from being purchased by our greatest adversary as they work to steal sensitive intelligence and control more of our food supply chain. We’ve been asleep at the wheel for far too long, and Communist China has taken advantage of our leniency. I will continue the fight to protect American land! Best, Worth County Fair The Worth County Fair is underway! We stopped by the ag learning center for the “Meet a Farmer” presentation and caught up with some folks who were there to enjoy the fair. Twisted River Farm As a working mom, Twisted River Farm’s mission of making fresh, locally grown food conveniently available resonated with me! I enjoyed touring the farm this week, hearing their story, and discussing their next chapter. Thanks for providing high-quality produce for Iowans! Norman Borlaug Boyhood Farm Born on a small farm south of Cresco, Iowa, Dr. Norman Borlaug devoted his life to ending world hunger. He is credited with saving a billion lives because of his work. I enjoyed stopping by the farm where he grew up to talk about the importance of preserving his legacy. Meeting with the Allamakee County Farm Bureau Elevating the voices of our Iowa farmers is a priority for me! It was great to meet with Becky Rea and Paul Weighner from the Allamakee County Farm Bureau to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill, the importance of finding a solution to Prop 12, and investing in animal health research. African American Museum of Iowa In honor of Juneteenth, I spent time at the African American Museum of Iowa, which recently reopened after a $5 million renovation. Thank you to the museum's incredible team for showcasing the history of Black Iowans. IA-02 Congressional Art Competition Winner I am excited to announce Victoria Humiston as the winner of this year's Congressional Art Competition for Iowa's Second Congressional District! Her winning piece, One Acre, was inspired by her uncle's farm and will hang in the U.S. Capitol. Victoria is currently a senior at Vinton-Shellsburg High in Vinton, IA, and a very talented young artist. I'm excited for her artwork to be displayed in the Capitol!
