The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

Biden Regime's Unilateral Border EOs Exacerbate Invasion

On Tuesday, the Biden Administration announced a plan to extend mass amnesty to illegal aliens across the country. The plan will protect hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens from deportation and allow them to qualify for programs like Medicaid and Social Security. This latest maneuver comes after Biden’s order codifying the entrance of 2,500 illegal aliens every day and is a slap in the face to American taxpayers.

Americans want enforcement of immigration law and the cessation of releasing unvetted illegal aliens into their communities. Under Biden’s regime, upwards of 10 million foreign nationals have entered our nation illegally, and Border Patrol has encountered 1,700+ individuals on the terrorist watchlist since the start of FY21. This Administration’s refusal to secure our border has resulted in countless violent crimes committed against American citizens. Every crime committed by an illegal alien is preventable.

House Republicans impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas earlier this year, but Senator Chuck Schumer dismissed the charges without a trial. Democrat Members of Congress will continue to protect the Biden Administration at the expense of Americans. Congressman Roy and I filed an amendment to the FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations bill which would prohibit funding for this action. We’re fighting to secure a vote on this amendment when the bill is considered next week. I’ll keep you posted.

New CBO Report Projects $56T+ National Debt in 10 Years

This week, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released updated budget projections for fiscal years 2024-2034. The CBO now projects that deficit spending for FY24 will reach $1.9 trillion, $400 billion higher than was predicted just four months ago. This $400 billion increase in projected deficits marks the third-highest yearly deficit increase in American history, equal to 6.7% of our GDP.

Joe Biden’s record 138 executive actions issued over the past three years and five months have cost American taxpayers more than $2 trillion. The CBO also found that the total cost of interest payments on our nation’s debt have increased by $540 billion–an astounding 153%–since Biden took office. Interest costs are projected to increase from 9% of federal revenue in 2021 to 18% in 2024 and 23% in 2034.

The CBO projects a gross federal debt total of $56.8 trillion in 2034, a ten-year deficit totaling $22.1 trillion. These updated projections must be a wake-up call for Congress to proactively cut federal spending. Nearly four years of failed economic policies by the Biden Administration have placed us on a suboptimal fiscal path, and we must reverse course before it’s too late.

Last year, and every term I’ve served in the House of Representatives, I introduced a resolution recognizing that the national debt is a threat to national security and that deficits are unsustainable, irresponsible, and dangerous. Our government’s spending spree is unsustainable and inches us closer to defaulting. My resolution will restore regular order to the appropriations process and acknowledge that Washington has a spending problem.
