Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for people ages 18-45 in the United States, and we now know the Chinese Communist Party is the force behind that crisis. From funding the manufacturing and export of illicit fentanyl precursor chemicals to holding ownership interest in companies tied to drug trafficking, the CCP is not only an active participant in the drug trade—they are directly incentivizing it. While the CCP continues to economically enrich themselves at the expense of the health and safety of millions of Americans, it is imperative that the United States sends a clear message: the buck stops here. Visit My Website to Learn More Port of Mattawa's Wastewater Infrastructure Project On Monday I was able to catch up with the Port of Mattawa on their wastewater infrastructure project that I was able to secure federal funding for. Their wastewater facilities are currently undergoing a major expansion to allow a significantly higher capacity. This will let businesses and farms to expand in the region and offer new economic development to Grant County. I look forward to keeping up with this project and am thankful for all the hard work from the Port in getting it up and running! Visiting with Kids Hope Children's Advocacy Center During my tour of the center in Moses Lake, I heard stories of how domestic violence and sexual assault impact children and families in our area. More so, I learned about the incredible work of centers like Kids Hope that help victims of such crimes and how they help them through traumatic incidents. From medical advocacy to support groups, I heard about the many avenues they encourage for victims to get the help they need. I commend them for all of their hard work and remain a staunch supporter of services for those that have experienced such crimes. Keeping Up with Rural Healthcare While in Grant County, I stopped by Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake to get an update on their new construction efforts and their Women and Infant Services Initiative that I helped secure funding for. The initiative will offer top-of-the-line delivery and post-delivery care for the rural areas in the region and reduces the outmigration of patients due to a lack of resources. This will bring a peace of mind to the area knowing that there are reliable services readily available for when the time comes! I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and thank our healthcare workers for their dedication to our health and safety. Talking Energy Security with Benton REA On Tuesday I joined the Benton Rural Electric Association to talk about my work in D.C. protecting our dams and our reliance on China for critical materials. We discussed the importance of an all-of-the-above approach to energy production and how there is a place for all energy sources when they work together. With China controlling 20% of EV exports, 50% of lithium-ion battery exports, and 80% of global solar cell exports, we are looking for ways to decrease our reliance on our adversary for these materials. A Warm Welcome from The Yakama Nation It was an absolute pleasure to visit with the Yakama Nation and tour their new Council Building in Toppenish! We discussed forestry management oversight and ongoing efforts between the tribe and the federal government. Discussing Quincy's Rail Expansion Project Another project that I was able to secure funding for is the Port of Quincy Rail Infrastructure Improvement Project. It expands the rail infrastructure on the northeast side of Quincy and increases the capacity, flexibility, and efficiency of the facility. It creates new tracks to store in-coming empty rail cars without obstructing the loading of cars. This is a great thing for Grant County, and I look forward to hearing more as the project progresses! Honoring Sergent Stephen Harder for Receiving the Carnegie Hero Fund Medal The Carnegie Hero Fund medal is an extremely prestigious award given to individuals who perform extraordinary acts of heroism and risk their lives in the attempt to save another. Sergeant Harder helped save a disabled 67-year-old woman who collapsed and was unable to flee while her home was burning. Sergeant Harder joins the ranks of the 10,422 individuals who have been awarded the Carnegie Hero Fund medal since its inception in 1904. He is the true embodiment of a dedicated first responder and we are so lucky to have him protecting our communities. Central Washington is safer knowing we have people like him who are willing to risk their safety in order to help those in danger. Thank you, Sergeant Harder, this medal is so well-deserved.
