Wayne County Insurance Agent Bound Over for Trial for Alleged Embezzlement from Employees?

*LANSING* ? Today, Nancy Caviston, 76, of Superior Charter Township, was bound over to face trial in the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on two counts of Embezzlement by an Agent, each a 5-year felony, and two misdemeanor counts of Wage and Fringe Benefits Violations, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. ?Today's preliminary examination took place before Judge James Plakas in the 35th District Court, who granted Caviston a $5,000 personal recognizance bond in January [ [link removed] ].?

As operator of The Caviston Agency, Inc., a Plymouth insurance agency, Caviston is alleged to have misappropriated payroll deductions of two long-term employees meant to serve as IRA contribution withholdings toward her personal and business expenses. It is also alleged that she failed to make the required employer matching contributions toward those IRA accounts.??

The investigation into Caviston was conducted by the federal Department of Labor?s Employee Benefits Security Administration.?

?Payroll and benefit fraud often lurk undetected for years,? said Nessel.? ?Unsuspecting and hardworking employees should be able to trust their employers without worry of being victimized by them.? I commend the Department of Labor?s Employee Benefits Security Administration and the prosecutors in my office for their work that enabled this case to move forward.??

Caviston is next scheduled to appear before the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on July 12th.???
