With Donald Trump at the top of the GOP ticket, we’re bracing for a barrage of MAGA-led attempts to undermine our democracy in November – just like we’ve seen since 2020.
But with the polls neck and neck, we’re also bracing for the reality that Trump wins – and we could have four more years even more extreme than his first term.
Just this week, the
New York Times reported on Trump’s day-one plans for a second term – and the sweeping changes he’d make:
One of Trump’s first actions will be to appoint lawyers who would bless his agenda as lawful. That means surrounding himself with extremists who are willing to reinterpret or ignore legal precedents to further his policies.
Make no mistake: this could lead to aggressive attempts to diminish civil liberties, further undermine our democratic institutions and democracy itself.
Winning elections at the ballot box is our first priority. But we need to be ready for MAGA attempts in the courtroom, where they will likely challenge the integrity of the electoral process.
