THE WEEK's BIG 3

ADL revised its Campus Antisemitism Report Card to more accurately reflect the efforts and shortcomings of institutions in recent months. While some schools were promoted to better grades, other schools went from a ‘D’ to an ‘F’ due to mishandling of campus encampments and protests. Three teens were arrested in France after a Jewish girl was raped in an attack allegedly fueled by antisemitism. ADL’s Center on Extremism has identified the key perpetrators who deny the sexual assaults that occurred on 10/7.

Read on for more on these headlines, news you can use to fight hate and the latest info about ADL from around the country.

ADL revises ‘report card’ grading US campuses’ handling of antisemitism

The Anti-Defamation League announced on Tuesday that it was revising its Campus Antisemitism Report Card amid the “recent spike in hostile anti-Zionist activity” on college campuses in the United States. The grades of three schools, including the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), were revised downward, from D to F, for “serious incident(s) at encampment[s] on campus and lack of adequate administration response.” - Times of Israel (READ MORE)

+ADL Tweet:  In light of anti-Jewish protests on college campuses recently, ADL changed some of the grades on our Campus Antisemitism Report Card. While some colleges had to be downgraded, other schools had positive grade changes.

+JG Tweet: As I told Wolf Blitzer on CNN, since the anti-Israel encampments on campuses spread across the US this past spring, some college administrators handled it well, and some have handled it terribly.

Children arrested in France after 12-year-old Jewish girl raped in ‘antisemitic attack’

“Three boys have been arrested in France after reportedly raping a 12-year-old girl after calling her a "dirty Jew". While returning home with a friend, the victim was reportedly attacked by two children aged 12 and 13 who hit her and threw her to the ground before sexually assaulting her.” – The Jewish Chronicle (READ MORE)

+ADL Tweet: We are horrified by media reports that a 12-year-old Jewish girl in the Paris area was beaten and raped by three teenagers who were motivated by antisemitism. We welcome the French authorities’ investigation into these allegations.

COE investigation reveals key perpetrators of 10/7 sexual assault denial on X

“In the wake of the October 7 terror attack in Israel, horrific details began to emerge of Hamas assailants brutalizing Israeli women and girls, parading their broken bodies through the streets, and concertgoers being raped and murdered in front of their friends. By November, videos and eyewitness testimony were widely available to the public, showing and describing Hamas terrorists using rape as a weapon of war.” – ADL (READ MORE)

+ADL Tweet: Despite abundant evidence and testimony corroborating the reports of sexual assault on 10/7, denial remains rampant online 6 months later. A new investigation from our Center on Extremism found 5 key X accounts promoting the dangerous narrative of denial.

KEY ADL SOCIAL STATEMENTS

  • A recent ADL survey found that 50% of teens 13-17 experienced online harassment in the past year. It’s no wonder the Surgeon General is calling for warning labels on social media platforms. They urgently need more oversight and to stop profiting off hate.

  • As we commemorate emancipation and the end of slavery in the US, let’s reflect on how far we’ve come and the work we still must do to fight racism and all forms of hate. Happy Juneteenth.

  • Another example of antisemitism in Montreal. Vandalizing a Holocaust memorial billboard with hateful graffiti is not criticism of Israel, it’s antisemitism pure and simple. Jewish communities worldwide are increasingly being targeted and intimidated and it should never be tolerated.

‌

IN THE COMMUNITY

  • A New Jersey panel is expected to vote on a controversial bill that would adopt a clear definition of antisemitism.“Supporters of the measure say it’s needed to define the boundaries of hate speech and antisemitic incidents, which have “skyrocketed” since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, according to the Anti-Defamation League. They say incorporating the definition put forward by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance into New Jersey’s policies would help fight against antisemitic attacks.”
