I was SO excited to be part of AL-07's Tribute to the Negro Leagues at Rickwood Field with an on-season game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants!
Rickwood Field is in Birmingham — a place of so much Civil Rights history. It is the oldest professional park in the country, the historic home of the Birmingham Black Barons, and continues to serve as an important reminder of Black excellence in sports.
The players of the Negro Leagues didn’t just contribute to baseball history — they fundamentally changed it.
This week, people traveled from all across the nation to visit our district — including prominent members of the Congressional Black Caucus — to highlight the achievements we’ve made as a community AND the work we still have to do.
I had a great time, and I hope you got to take part in the festivities as well.
