Mendota Heights Wetland Health Evaluation Program
The Wetland Health Evaluation Program (WHEP) engages citizen volunteers to help monitor wetlands in their community by conducting invertebrate and vegetation sampling throughout the growing season to evaluate wetland health. The data is then used by city and county staff and decision makers to help track and manage wetlands, as well as evaluate impacts due to land use changes and stormwater runoff.
The WHEP team will continue to monitor Copperfield Pond wetland, which has been monitored by the WHEP program since 1998. This year the team will also be adding Pagel Pond wetland to the monitoring program. Pagel Pond was suggested as a monitoring site by several residents that border the pond as well as by City Staff. Both water bodies are MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Public Waters, meaning they are under the jurisdiction of the DNR. The City would like to thank all of the WHEP team members who have volunteered to monitor two of our wetlands in Mendota Heights this year. The City has monitored 18 wetlands within Mendota Heights since the start of the WHEP grogram, and has 22 years of wetland data. Team leader Darcy Tatham has been monitoring for 18 of those years.
Thank you to all of our Mendota Heights WHEP volunteers!

Night to Unite 2024
Each year on the first Tuesday night in August, the City of Mendota Heights hosts Night to Unite, a summer evening dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the commitment to a safe community.
For residents, this is an opportunity to put together a neighborhood celebration, turn on the front porch lights, gather with neighbors and friends, get to know one another, catch up on things, play some games with the kids, enjoy a few hot-off-the-grill favorites and build a sense of community.
Night to Unite 2024 is Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Neighborhood representatives are asked to register their Night to Unite events by July 22, so members of the Police, Fire and Ambulance service can stop by to visit.
