Hey John – A few years ago, Georgia spent $1.5 million dollars to overhaul their campaign finance website so the public could know who funds campaigns and politicians. But despite pouring resources into it, the new website is barely functional.

In fact, the Georgia campaign finance system needs so much work that I built an open source python script to deal with compliance myself.

Our elected officials are responsible for deciding where taxpayer dollars are spent. When they don’t understand the issues they’re trying to address – like fixing a broken campaign finance website – they end up misusing important funds that could be spent elsewhere. And it’s really important for the public to easily know where campaign finance contributions are spent, and who is spending it.

In just a few hours, I was able to hack something together to improve a system that Georgia spent millions of dollars trying to fix. Nobody else in the State Senate has a computer science degree. My expertise will only be more important as our legislature works to regulate AI and the technology of the future.
