[Your campaign brief for June 21, 2024]([link removed])

John-

This week, I explained how Biden’s recently announced amnesty plan is an insult to legal immigrants and opens up the door for cartels to take advantage. I also challenged Mexico’s incoming president to work with the United States to destroy the Mexican drug cartels and explained why closer coordination with the American military is necessary to root out this threat to the United States.

As always, I am immensely grateful for the support of generous patriots like you who contribute to my campaign. Your donations help fuel this newsletter, my campaign, my efforts to grow the conservative movement, and my assistance for Republicans up and down the ballot to win their elections so we can expand our majority in the House. If you are able to contribute any amount at all, even a donation as small as $10 goes a long way. You can donate at this link:

BIDEN’S AMNESTY PLAN IS AN INSULT TO LEGAL IMMIGRANTS

Joe Biden just announced an amnesty plan this week that could affect upwards of 500,000 illegal immigrants. The plan would allow the spouses of U.S. citizens, spouses who are not here legally, to apply for citizenship without having to first leave the country

It is no surprise that this is coming as we approach the 2024 election. Biden desperately needs something to appease his far-left base. In poll after poll, Biden is hemorrhaging key demographics of Democratic voters who he needs to turn out for him if he has any chance of winning re-election. These voters don’t feel Biden is progressive enough, and Biden hopes this amnesty plan will help pacify these voters. That is the sole motivation for this plan.

What should surprise - and frankly alarm - Americans, is that the American president has no guiding principle when it comes to immigration policy. Biden has vacillated between ending all of Trump’s border enforcement policies at the start of his administration, to just weeks ago announcing an executive order that was a weaker version of Trump’s policies to halt asylum claims, to now granting amnesty to half a million illegal immigrants. It’s nonsensical, because it’s based on politics and not on principle.

Here’s the fundamental problem with Biden’s amnesty plan: it is an insult to legal immigrants. Legal immigrants waited their turn, spending years and countless hours on paperwork and procedure to earn their American citizenship. America will always have a line of people waiting to enter our country because we are the greatest, most prosperous country in the world. There is no bigger slap in the face to the people still waiting in that line than to allow illegal immigrants to cut in front of them and gain citizenship to this country just to make a political point. It destroys the incentive structure of our legal immigration system.

The Mexican drug cartels are likely salivating over this plan as well, which reveals another issue of Biden’s amnesty proposal. Drug cartels already make billions of dollars on human trafficking alone. Now that they know they can sell a pathway to citizenship to illegal immigrants by matching them with a spouse in the United States, they are likely to seek even more profit by trafficking more migrants into the United States.

Like most Biden policies, this amnesty proposal is a short sighted political maneuver with no thought to the second and third order consequences of this action.

MY CHALLENGE TO THE INCOMING MEXICAN PRESIDENT

Mexico has a new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who will replace outgoing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). Now, if you’ll recall, AMLO wasn’t my biggest fan. He actually promised to meddle in my election here in America (very illegal) to defeat me because I introduced legislation that would authorize the use of military force against the Mexican drug cartels that AMLO let run his country.

Hopefully, President-elect Sheinbaum will be an upgrade from AMLO. Only time will tell, but I have a challenge to the incoming Mexican president: collaborate closely with the U.S. military to destroy the Mexican drug cartels.

President AMLO’s argument against my plan to authorize the use of military force against the cartels was always a straw man. AMLO claimed I wanted America to “bomb Mexico.” But that wasn’t my proposal at all.

My proposal was to have the American military coordinate closely with the Mexican military in order to combat the cartels. America’s military - our intelligence, our capabilities, our technology - is vastly superior to Mexico’s. Mexico is not able to combat the cartels on its own - the cartels have heavy weaponry and a quasi military that simply overpowers Mexico’s forces. Those are just the hard facts.

The only way to destroy the cartels is for Mexico to allow the United States military to help them deal with this problem. As Chairman of the Congressional Cartel Task Force, this is one of my top priorities and I am cautiously optimistic that a change of leadership inside of Mexico will allow us to finally work with our southern neighbor to combat the cartels who are threatening both of our countries.
