This work began long before I came to Stevens Point. For example, Mary McComb, former member of the council, spoke of her work back in the late 2000s on sustainability and how this resolution is a continuation of her work. She has been advocating for climate action for decades and last night we did just that.
This work is just beginning. Next month, the common council will vote on the creation of a sustainability committee and, later this summer, Mayor Mike Wiza will appoint community leaders to begin working on a climate action plan.
We have more work to do, but today, I’m filled with hope and pride that future Pointers will have a sustainable, healthy, and thriving place to call home. |
