We’ve all seen the headlines this week – companies from McDonald’s to Target are trying to win back customers through summer price cuts that appear as $5 value meals and 20¢ to 80¢ price reductions on thousands of items.
But how can these companies only now make such significant price cuts, especially when inflation has been cooling steadily, dropping by nearly 6% since its height in June 2022?

We all know that during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, prices of goods rose due to the additional stressors on our supply chains and labor restrictions. But, while additional costs related to the pandemic have subsided, corporations have yet to lower their prices – they’ve only gotten higher.
Congressional Democrats and President Biden have been working nonstop to fight this. We’ve been able to pass packages bringing manufacturing back to the US, creating thousands of jobs, lowering the costs of prescription drugs, and supplementing the cost of utilities like energy and broadband.
But, Republicans stopped our legislative successes when they won the House majority in 2022. Since then, Republicans have blocked our attempts to cap gas prices and enact other cost-lowering measures. Republican-led companies have sued to stop the administration’s attempts to hold credit cards and airlines accountable for exorbitant fees, negotiate the price of prescription drugs sold through Medicare, and more.
Republicans will talk all day about inflation and everyday costs Americans face – but when it comes down to it, they block every effort to bring relief to working families. They would rather you continue to suffer until November in the hopes that they win back the White House than vote with Democrats to bring you the relief you need and deserve.

We’ve seen it too many times to count – the Republican party cannot be trusted to choose the good of the American people over their own pursuit of power. If they gain power this November, their policies of tax cuts for corporations and the ultra-wealthy and their plans to gut social services will bring our families and economy to the brink of disaster. We can’t let this happen.
To bring our everyday costs down and to ensure we have a government that is working for us, not against us, we must re-elect President Biden and win a Democratic House majority this fall. [[link removed]]
