Today is World Health Day, a time to celebrate and lift up the nurses and other health care professionals who keep our communities healthy each and every day.

Now more than ever, these brave public servants need our help. New Jersey has the second-highest rate of COVID-19 cases in the country, but our supply of respirators, face masks, and other medical and protective equipment is rapidly decreasing.

We need to get our frontline health care workers the supplies they need -- and soon. Join me in demanding President Trump utilize the Defense Production Act to address this critical shortage before it's too late:

South Jersey's health care workers -- including the good people at Cooper University Health Care, Virtua Health, Inspira Health, and more -- are fighting the coronavirus night and day. But if they don't have a way to protect themselves, they will get sick and the number of patients our state is able to treat will greatly decrease.

And without ventilators and other medical supplies, we won't be able to provide life-saving care to everyone who needs it. That's unacceptable, and it's past time this administration gets off the sidelines and uses the authority of the Defense Production Act when South Jersey and all of America needs it most.
