Hi John,
With election day fast approaching, we need to make sure that ending Israel’s assault on Gaza is a priority for the new parliament.
Since October, the British government has given its full political and military support to Israel, even as it carries out the most brutal collective punishment against the people of Gaza. Last week it was revealed that the UK has issued more than 100 arms export licences to Israel in that time – despite all the evidence of how they’re being used.(1)
With every parliamentary seat up for election on 4 July, now is an important moment to redouble our efforts to end the UK’s complicity in war crimes. That’s why we’re asking you to urgently contact your election candidates and ask them to back an arms embargo on Israel.
Will you write to your local MP candidates now and ask them to speak out on arms sales to Israel?
Yes, I’ll email my local candidates ([link removed])
In the last eight months an estimated 37,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military – including children as young as six months old.(2) The scale of the killing is such that the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories has concluded there are “reasonable grounds” to believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and the International Court of Justice has begun a formal investigation.(3)
Despite international censure, Israel has continued to escalate its violence against Palestinians. Health services have been repeatedly targeted, with three mass graves uncovered around hospitals in Gaza, prompting the UN, the US and the EU to call for a war crimes investigation.(4) Israel has also repeatedly attacked or blocked the supply of aid to Gaza with devastating effects.(5) This month the WHO warned of “famine-like” conditions in significant parts of the area.(6)
There is a very clear risk that sending weapons makes the UK complicit in war crimes. Yet our government has continued to supply arms to Israel. As Oxfam said this week, “If you knowingly sell weapons that are being used to kill thousands of innocent children and their parents, why would you continue?”(7)
Enough is enough. We need to make sure that our representatives stand firmly against the UK’s complicity in Israel’s war crimes. Will you write to your local candidates and demand they call for the UK to #StopArmingIsrael?

There is a strong democratic mandate for an arms embargo on Israel, with polls showing that a majority of voters in Britain support a ban.(8) We need to make sure our representatives know that – and act on it. Several governments, including Canada, Italy and Spain, have already taken steps to suspend arms sales to Israel.(9) It’s up to us to demand the UK acts too.
We desperately need to elect representatives who will campaign for an end to the war in Gaza, an arms embargo on Israel and lasting justice for Palestine. As the situation in Gaza deteriorates each day, there is no time to waste. Can we count on your support?
Yes I will email ([link removed])
