Dear Friends,

Syrian journalists who have fled to neighbouring Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Türkiye are facing the threat of being sent back to Syria, where they risk imprisonment or even death. Despite very different political situations, these four countries have taken measures to justify the expulsion of Syrian refugees by disguising them as “voluntary returns.” No steps have been taken to protect journalists who are the subject of arrest warrants in Syria.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and its local partner, the Syrian Centre for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM), are calling for the protection of Syrian journalists who have fled abroad, pointing out that Syria is ranked 179th out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index and is more dangerous than ever for media professionals. We are asking the governments of these host countries and the international community as a whole to grant them protection.

More than ever, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) needs your support in order to be able to assist journalists who are threatened in Syria and thoughout the world. It is only with your help that we can keep on pressuring governments and political decision-makers to ensure that media professionals are protected. We thank you for your generosity.
