Tell Governor Evers to OPEN WISCONSIN.
On Thursday, April 16, 2020, Governor Tony Evers (D) issued, through the Department of Health Services, Emergency Order No. 28, which extends the current stay-at-home order to May 26, 2020. The current order is in effect through Friday, April 24. While the extension makes very modest changes in some areas, in general, the order requires the state to remain shut down for another month.
Wisconsin Family Action believes at this point, given that the numbers reported regularly by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, show we have definitely “flattened” the COVID-19 curve, that it is prudent for the Governor to begin opening the state again in significant ways rather than extending the very stringent shut down for an additional 30 days. We believe a petition to the governor is in order.
The wording of the petition follows:
Wisconsin was built on the understanding that our right to support our families through work, to engage in trade and reap the rewards of our labors and to worship freely fundamental, God-given rights.
We know that elected officials at all levels of Wisconsin’s government are concerned about the public health and welfare, and we appreciate that. We all need to use common sense and take precautions in the midst of the pandemic. But heavy-handed government orders that interfere with our most basic liberties are certain to do more harm than good to Wisconsin citizens, especially our state's best natural resource, our families.
Wisconsin people are losing their jobs, and the impact of the current shut-down on countless families and their livelihoods will be dire and long-lasting.
Governor Evers, it’s time to re-open Wisconsin for business. On behalf of a hard-working Badger State people, We hereby petition you to do all that is within your gubernatorial power to make that happen, including cooperating with the state legislature on proposals that will move us forward and to rescind the most recent extension of your stay-at-home order.
