Friend,

I hope you’re having a great start to the summer and staying cool in the South Texas heat. San Antonio’s outdoor pools are open through mid-August, with select pools staying open into September. You can find hours and locations here.

A number of school districts and organizations are proving free summer meals for kids in San Antonio. You can call 211, text FOOD to 304-304, or check out the interactive map here to find a site near you.

Celebrating Pride in San Antonio

Happy Pride Month! I’m proud to celebrate the resilience and diversity of the LGBTQI+ community in San Antonio. This month is both a reminder of the progress our country has made and a time to renew our commitment to protecting these rights. I’m looking forward to San Antonio’s Pride celebration on June 29th!

Honoring Our Heroes

On Memorial Day, I joined Edgewood ISD for their annual ceremony to honor all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. I am forever grateful for the bravery, service, and courage of our heroes in uniform.

Celebrating the Next Generation

I always love getting to spend time with young folks in our district. A few weeks ago, I was glad to spend an afternoon with the Junior State of America Club at Northside ISD’s Health Careers High School. We had a great conversation about democracy and the difference that young folks can make. I know these students have a very bright future ahead of them!

In May, Our Lady of the Lake University’s softball team secured the school’s first national championship win! The OLLU Saints captured the win at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics World Series in Georgia, and made the Westside and all of San Antonio very proud.

Congratulations as well to the St. Mary’s University’s women’s golf team for their finish as National Runner-Up at the Orange County National in Florida! What a great time for San Antonio’s student athletes.

Nonstop Flights from San Antonio

Image

I’m excited to share that San Antonio is one step closer to a nonstop flight to our nation’s capital. In May, I voted to pass federal legislation to open up five new direct flights to Reagan National Airport – which, pending approval from the Department of Transportation, could mean a direct flight for San Antonio. I’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
