An article just came out that details the dangerous actions his opponent took in PG County.
Prince George’s County is now the largest remaining sanctuary jurisdiction in Maryland, meaning it refuses to comply with any federal federal immigration officials seeking to remove illegal immigrants from our state and deport them to their home countries.
This began under his opponent’s leadership as Prince George’s County Executive–and the wide-ranging impacts have harmed Maryland families.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced in December 2020 that it had arrested two criminal illegal immigrants after they were repeatedly released by Prince George's County, despite the suspects having issued detainers.
ICE said the individuals detained included an MS-13 member and a convicted sex offender.
This is not partisan, it’s just common sense: drug dealers, gang members and sex-offenders who are here illegally should never be permitted back on our streets to terrorize our communities.
It’s outrageous that Gov. Hogan’s opponent enabled and allowed this to occur without even notifying federal law enforcement.
Her political choices came at the expense of the safety and security of Prince George’s County families.
The statistics are undeniable–Angela Alsobrooks has failed to put public safety over politics.
Since she became Prince George’s County Executive in 2018, violent crime has increased by more than 30%, according to the FBI.
Reported homicides under her leadership also increased. The FBI data shows Prince George’s County recorded 117 reported murders in 2023, compared to 60 murders in 2018–an almost 100% increase.
Instead of perpetuating harm for Maryland families and communities, Gov. Hogan is running for the U.S. Senate to help solve the most pressing issues facing Marylanders and Americans.
That starts with finally taking long-needed action to end the migrant crisis at the southern border and fix our broken immigration system.
For eight years as governor, Gov. Hogan never put politics before public safety.
That’s because public safety is not partisan–we should all have an interest in protecting our communities, getting violent criminals off the street, and enforcing existing laws meant to bring down crime.
This is especially true when it comes to addressing the devastating consequences of our broken immigration system.
Instead of playing political games with people’s lives, Republicans AND Democrats must come together to secure our borders and protect our families.
When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.
Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.
Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.
I don't aspire to be a United States senator.
