John, nannies, care workers, and house cleaners are on the frontlines of this crisis. Many are still going to work to keep our homes and families safe, while others have lost all of their income. They are confronting a terrifying new reality: thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, they don't know how they're going to put food on the table or pay their rent. Those going to work don't know how they will protect themselves and their families from getting sick.
In the face of the worst global pandemic in a lifetime, most have NO safety net: no paid time off, no sick days. Undocumented workers have largely been cut out of support from the first federal government funded relief bills.
This is a nightmare unfolding day by day for the almost 2.5 million domestic workers in this country, and we urgently need your help. The direct support provided by concerned community members like you has been vital, but it's not enough. Congress must act.
Join us and tell your Representative to ensure that domestic workers are included in any new relief package -- because all of us deserve support!
A recent survey of domestic workers revealed the severity of the crisis: 70% told us they now have NO work. 84% said they're not sure they'll be able to afford food in the next few weeks. [1]
Half of domestic workers lack access to medical care, yet they are the ones we rely on to provide critical care to some of the most vulnerable populations, with no support and no safety net of their own.
To make sure domestic workers and caregivers can continue doing essential work on the frontlines, we need #CareForAll. That means: protections & benefits for all essential workers, regardless of status; free COVID testing and care; and ongoing cash assistance that is inclusive of all working families.
It's hard to overstate just how serious the situation is, and we need your support ASAP. Congress is deciding right now what priorities will make it into the next relief package and they need to hear from you.
Please ask your Representative to ensure any new relief package includes all of us -- because all domestic workers deserve support!
Thank you so much for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Alana Eichner, Policy Manager
