Hey John,
Happy Pride! This one's for the high school students and recent graduates: take action this month by filling out and sharing this school climate survey from our friends at GLSEN!
Policy makers have cited statistics and stories from GLSEN's School Climate Survey while fighting for LGBTQ-inclusive school policies for years! That's everyone from state legislators, to city council members, all the way to school principals and teachers themselves.
So let's make sure the latest survey is full of modern, accurate experiences of LGBTQ youth - from those suffering under strict laws and muzzled teachers, to those living in supportive districts who can show examples of how much better young LGBTQ lives could be if schools were allowed to support their queer and trans youth!
If you did not attend middle or high school during the 2023-2024 school year, you can still take action by sharing this with others!
This survey will be cited by decision-makers nationwide, including:
- state lawmakers debating LGBTQ health & rights
- teachers making their case to principals that they want LGBTQ characters in the books they're teaching
- school board members fighting to save the budget line item dedicated to support the gender & sexuality alliance.
That's why it's essential this survey is informed by a wide variety of experiences, including LGBTQ students of color, queer neurodivergent youth, aromantic and asexual students, young people who were still questioning their sexuality in high school — the more who take the survey the better!
Thank you for anything you can do,
The Act Out team at Advocates for Youth
