Hey — I’m sure you’re busy, so I’ll get right to the point: We’re 10 days from our next quarterly fundraising deadline, we’re under attack by outside MAGA groups, and we can’t afford for our next FEC report to show weak fundraising numbers. If you’d like to help and don’t have time to keep reading, then here’s a link to pitch in $5 and help us reach our goal.
But if you need to hear more — and if, like me, you’re inundated with campaign emails then I don’t blame you for being particular about which candidates you support — then here are five reasons that I believe this race, here in OR-06, is worthy of your time and investment. 1) To me, real leadership is about delivering results, not getting on TV. I will work with whomever, whenever to improve the lives of Oregon families. Despite being a first-term Democratic representative serving with an absolutely dysfunctional GOP majority, I’m proud to have passed legislation in this Congress and delivered critical investments for OR-06 communities. 2) I understand the struggles families are facing today, because I’ve faced them, too. Despite how incredibly hard my parents worked, they couldn’t afford to send me to college, so I juggled multiple jobs — from painting homes to pouring coffee — to put myself through school. That’s not an especially common perspective in the halls of Congress. 3) I am absolutely determined to reinstate abortion rights in this nation. Here in Oregon, I helped pass one of the nation’s strongest state laws protecting the right to choose, and I won’t stop fighting until we have reproductive freedom in all 50 states. 4) This district is as competitive as it gets. It’s a fact that the closer an election, the more impactful every donation is. Last time around, when I faced the very same opponent in this district, the outcome was so close we didn’t know whether I’d won or lost until several days after polls closed. 5) Both parties agree that this race could decide which party controls Congress. That means our incredibly narrow margin of victory could be the difference between protecting abortion nationwide or banning it outright. And it could be the difference between a House of Representatives that certifies the 2024 election result or one that puts Donald Trump before our democracy.
