Friend, today is a day to celebrate the resilience and determination of refugees who fled their home countries to escape war and disaster. Among the world’s refugees are more than 43.3 million children.
These are children who have been forced to leave behind their familiar schools and close friends. Children who long for their homes and their belongings. Children whose dreams of becoming doctors, astronauts and musicians are disrupted by displacement.
Instead of simply being children, refugees and displaced children have been directly affected by dangerous conflict, crowded into under-resourced camps or denied safety and peace.
Children forced to flee their homes shouldn’t have to forfeit their childhoods. UNICEF is working urgently to meet children’s needs on their journeys for safety. With your commitment and support, here are some examples of what UNICEF has been able to do for children who have been uprooted:
- Run Child-Friendly Spaces where children can play, mothers can rest and separated families can reunite
- Work with local governments and private sectors to end immigration detention
- Provide life-saving humanitarian supplies to help children in refugee camps
Friend, no matter why a child leaves home, where they came from, where they are, or how they got there, a child is a child — and they deserve care, protection and safety.
With less than 24 hours left until midnight, don’t miss your chance to make a 3X gift for children on the move.
Any gift you make today, on World Refugee Day, will be 3X matched to bring vital supplies and support to children in need.
Thank you for being there for children,
UNICEF USA
