Dear NRDC Activist,
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required the cleanup of several toxic "forever chemicals" found in drinking water earlier this year, thanks in part to activists like you — but now the chemical industry and water utility trade associations have filed lawsuits against the EPA's rule to limit six toxic PFAS chemicals in our drinking water.
Stand up against these corporate villains! Tell the EPA that you support limiting toxic PFAS chemicals.
PFAS are a large class of more than 14,000 synthetic chemicals that are found in everything from food processing and packaging to cosmetics, cookware, dental floss, ski wax, artificial turf, guitar strings, and much more.
The EPA standards address the prevalence of just six of those PFAS chemicals in drinking water — but even that's too many for the chemical industry giants seeking to block these vital protections.
As many as 105 million people in the U.S. get their drinking water from water systems contaminated by PFAS chemicals at a level exceeding the new standards.
This daily exposure to PFAS — known as "forever chemicals" because they are extremely resistant to breaking down in the environment — has been linked to a long list of health effects, including cancer, high cholesterol, abnormal fetal development, and harmful effects on the liver, kidneys, and immune, nervous, and reproductive systems.
Support the EPA restricting toxic "forever chemicals" found in drinking water.
NRDC is racing to court to defend the EPA's lifesaving standards. At the same time, we need as many activists as possible to barrage the EPA with messages calling for the strongest possible standards to protect millions of people from the dangers of PFAS. The chemical industry and water utilities routinely declare their commitment to safe drinking water, and yet have long downplayed how dangerous these "forever chemicals" are. Enough is enough.
Urge the EPA to stand strong against industry pressure and keep toxic PFAS chemicals out of our drinking water.
Sincerely,
Erik Olson
