Dear Friend,

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment.

The largest oil export project in United States history recently got a green light from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Sea Port Oil Terminal (SPOT) will have the capacity to export a staggering 2 million barrels of crude oil per day to foreign markets.

But friend, court approval does not mean the facility has been built, and it does not mean the end of the road in this fight.

We will work with our partners and supporters like you to push back against dangerous oil export projects that threaten communities and the climate. Make a contribution today and it will be matched $2:$1 by our Board of Trustees.

If it isn’t stopped, SPOT will drive oil production expansion in fracking fields like the Permian Basin in West Texas and produce disastrous levels of greenhouse gas pollution even beyond the 30-year life of the project. Experts estimate that crude oil exports from SPOT could have lifecycle emissions equivalent to operating nearly 90 new coal-fired power plants.

This terminal could set a precedent for similar projects in the permitting pipeline that would damage air quality along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast.

Earthjustice is working with communities throughout the Gulf Coast to fight the industry’s aggressive plans to lock in new oil and gas infrastructure in the form of pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and crude oil and gas export terminals. This infrastructure would dramatically increase fossil fuel consumption, damage our health, and heat our climate.

We're using the power of the law to fight back and stop these destructive expansions in their tracks.

Help us fight back today and your impact will be tripled! Every dollar you donate will be matched two times.

Thank you for giving what you can to fight for our planet — and the people and wildlife that call it home.

Sincerely,
Erin Gaines
